:squee: Let me just say that you got her amazingly well and I love this! Everything about her looks so perfect. And I just want to say thank you because there is a really big lack of amazing fanart for the series like this. So thank you. And again, this is amazing. :happybounce:

I really love this book, and you're right, there's hardly ANY fanart for it, so it was kind of hard to figure out how to portray her, but I'm glad you like it. :D (Big Grin)

Ah, well. I never watched FMA because everything's changed from the manga there, but I probably will just so I can prolong FMAB. Anyway, Brotherhood is my absolute favorite anime of all time. :)

Yes. Fanart is always nice to see. Especially GOOD fanart. Some people get the characters so well, it's like I'm looking at a pic from the anime. :)

Ah, well this was made for a book report my sister had to do. I read it last year, but I red it again when Arisha was doing her book talk thing so I don't miss her that much. Reading it a second time, I decided Katsa annoyed me.

I miss Po though.

Really? Why? I liked that she was a person who had considered having kids and decided she didn't want to, and was okay with that. It's not something you get a lot of in YA lit. If they think about kids at all, which they probably don't, they think 'Oh I'll probably have kids someday when I'm all grown up.' And since I DON'T want kids of my own, EVER, it was nice to find a main character who was in with me.

Did you read Bitterblue? That one was weird. I didn't like it nearly as much as the first two.

I was fine with her not wanting to have kids or anything. And I loved Po and and Katsa together. Then I thought that Katsa was kinda unfair to Po. At the end of the book, where Po is like I'll give myself to you and Katsa is like, I don't wanna hold you back so even though I care about you and all, I'm just going to come and go as I please so don't mind me and hey, you can be with other people too, I won't stop you. I mean, it's not like I care about you enough to be COMMITTED or anything. If that was the other way around and it was the GUY who said that, everyone would be like' shame on you, what a nasty player and oh, what a weak girl, letting the guy toss her around like that. But noooo, Katsa's girl so, everyone goes, "HURRAH FOR FEMINISM. AND GIRLS WHO HATE DRESSES AND ANYTHING REMOTELY GIRLY OR MARRIAGE OR- you know what I mean.

Don't get me wrong. I love Katsa. It just felt like the author had this feminist agenda she was trying to push down my throat. It seemed like she wanted me to think that  Katsa was strong cause she hated dresses and and her hair and she didn't want to fall in love- and I totally get that. I mean, what's wrong with that? Everyone has personal choices. But the author made it seem that it was only BECAUSE OF THIS that she was a strong female.

Minor complaint really. But I feel bad for Po. I think that you if she REALLY CARED about him, she would have committed. Not necessarily marriage. But would you want that person to be with other people? Its like the author knew it would seem like a double standard if Katsa didn't want to belong to anyone, so she didn't want Po to belong to Katsa either.

(I'm sorry for that rant. Some of my friends think that when I use capital letters I'm angry and shouting. I'm not. Caps are just nice for emphasis.)

Oops!

No, I didn't read Bitterblue. Or Fire. Because Fire seemed to take the issues I had with this book even more. And Bitterblue sounded boring. So I decided not to ruin the book for myself.

Well that's funny! I think the same thing. The first two are great. Bitterblue was... Good, but it could be better. I like the authors character choices. Strong women are good for sci- fi.

Wait. So you agree with me or with Curlscat?

Cause I don't like Fire or Bitterblue, although I really liked Gracelng. :)

And I think strong female characters are awesome for fantasy too, just as long as they don't take the feminist agenda too overboard. :D

Well, in Bitterblue, they talk a lot about the way Katsa and Po are together, and I get the feeling they HAVE given themselves to each other in a way. They're not married, but they're together and they're very obviously in love. They're in an unconventional relationship that works for them.

I understand what you're saying. It's been a while since I read it, and I was just interested in the story when I first picked it up, so all that stuff could be there. I've only recently started to really get on the fact that STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS are basically Annabeth Chase-- smart, good at fighting, and brave. And I can totally understand not liking someone who thought that that was the only way to be strong (because personally I think there are few people stronger than women who choose to give up a career to be mothers, or who choose to be mothers AND work. It's hard to be a mom) because it gets old fast. I mean, girls like that are awesome, but most of us will never be that girl.

But if she didn't want to be tied down herself, would it be fair for her to ask him to tie himself down? I mean, I get where you're coming from, because Po is the kind of person to be monogamous to the extreme and I feel bad that he fell for someone who's afraid of commitment, but I think it would be unfair for Katsa to ask something of him that she wasn't willing to give herself.

It's fine. I rant a lot, too.

Fire... I don't know. I didn't feel the feminist agenda, so I can't confirm or deny without rereading and looking for that, but I liked it well enough. It dealt a lot with the downside of being beautiful, which I thought was cool and am going to incorporate into my Snow White's character arc. Bitterblue wasn't BORING, but it wasn't action-ey the way the others were, and it was really DARK.

Yeah. I got that. Sometimes that type of relationship works for some people. And if it's like that for Katsa and Po, then great, I certainly can't judge that.

I didn't see it the first time either. I reealy loved it. Then I read it again and this time I was LOOKING for those things (because I went on goodreads and I was like, wait a second, THATS SO TRUE) and they suddenly became so OBVIOUS that I couldn't believe I didn't see it the first time.

Yeah, STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS don't have to be kick-butt fighters or deadly weapons. Cause, really, there's hardly any strong females I know in real life like that. AND I KNOW RIGHT. Being a mom is super hard. THAT takes a lot of effort. And I consider moms who stay at home to be on par (if not higher)with people like Katsa (if there's anyone like that) any day.

Okay. I see what you're saying. That's true. But it's kinda like the author REALIZED that she would be making Katsa a complete hypocrite if she asked Po what she couldn't give herself, and that's why she made their relationship like that...and I dunno, it just doesn't sit that well with me. Poor Po.

:D

Oooh, that's cool. In your Rumpelstiltskin's Revenge story?

Personally I could never do it. I like commitment.

Yeah. I picked up a book by Terry Brooks (one of the few high fantasy authors for adults I can enjoy because he balances really long books with a writing style that doesn't put me to sleep and his books AREN'T full of sex for once-- I started reading them when I was like ten), and I really enjoyed them all when I was younger, but then I read this one and I realized that his main girl character is a complete stereotype, and she's paired with a boy who's just as much of a sterotype. It bothers me, but if I'd read it at ten I wouldn't have cared.

Part of that I think is because there aren't a lot of PEOPLE like that in general. I know I couldn't be like my mom.

Yup.

By the by, I finished betaing your chapter.

That's hardly something to be ashamed about. Once upon a Nightmare, I liked TWILIGHT, okay? I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT'S EVEN POSSIBLE, WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME BACK THEN?

You got that right. I don't think I'll ever be as amazing as my mom, but I'll try. :)
